Blue jeans,
White shirt,
Walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn
It was like, James Dean, forsure
You so fresh to death
Sick as cancer
You were sorta' punk rock,
I grew up on hip-hop
But you fit me better than my favourite sweater,
And I know that love is mean,
And love hurts
But I still remember that day we met in December,
Oh baby.

I will love you 'til the end of time
I would wait a million years
Promise you'll remember that you're mine?
Baby can you see through the tears?
Love you more
Than those bitches before.

Say you'll remember, oh baby, say you'll remember
I will love you 'til the end of time.

Big dreams, Gangster.
Said you had to leave to start your life over
I was like: "No please, stay here. We don't need no money we can make it all work."
But he headed out on Sunday, said he'd come home Monday
I stayed up waitin', anticipatin and pacin but he was
Chasing paper
"Caught up in the game," that was the last I heard
I will love you 'til the end of time
I would wait a million years
Promise you'll remember that you're mine?
Baby, can you see through the tears?
Love you more than those bitches before.
Say you'll remember, oh baby, say you'll remember
I will love you 'til the end of time

He went out every night
And Baby, that's alright
I told you that no matter what you did, I'd be by your side
'Cause I'm a ride or die
Whether you fail or fly
Well shit, at least you tried.
But when you walked out that door, a piece of me died
I told you I wanted more - but that's not what I had in mind
I just want it like before,
We were dancin' all night
Then they took you away - stole you out of my life
You just need to remember...

Will love you 'til the end of time
I would wait a million years
Promise you'll remember that you're mine?
Baby, can you see through the tears ?
Love you more than those bitches before,
Say you'll remember, oh Baby, say you'll remember

I will love you 'til the end of time.

If Not, Winter

In my English 395 class, we’re reading poetry by Sappho.
Sappho lived on the island of Lesbos in approximately 630 B.C. She was a well known female poet in her time, but unfortunately much of her work has been lost, or severely damaged. To complicate matters, her works have been translated from Greek to English. I’ve been focusing on the literature which has been pieced together from the remains. Many of the poems are very short; some only a single word in length, but I find that often those can be the most intriguing. The following are my favourite poems from Sappho’s fragments:

I conversed with you in a dream

-------------------------------------------------------------

Some men say an army of horse and some men say an army on foot and some men say an army of ships is the most beautiful thing on the black earth
But I say it is
What you love

--------------------------------------------------------------

Frequently
For those
I treat well are the ones who most of all harm me
Crazy
You, I want
To suffer
In myself I am aware of this

--------------------------------------------------------------

Stars around the beautiful moon
Hide back their luminous form
Whenever all full she shines
On earth

Silvery

--------------------------------------------------------------

You come and I was crazy for you
And you cooled my mind that burned with longing

--------------------------------------------------------------

For the man who is beautiful is beautiful to see
But the good man will at once also beautiful be

--------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes at sunset
The rosefingered moon
Surpasses all the stars
And her light
Stretches over salt-sea
Equally and flowerdeep fields

--------------------------------------------------------------

But I am not someone who likes to wound rather I have a quiet mind

--------------------------------------------------------------

But me, you have forgotten or you love someone more than me

You say that you love rain, but you open your umbrella when it rains.

You say that you love the sun, but you find a shadow spot when the sun shines.

You say that you love the wind, but you close your windows when wind blows.

This is why I am afraid you'll say that you love me, too.

He holds me in his big arms
Drunk and I am seeing stars
This is all I think of

Watching all our friends fall
In and out of Old Paul's
This is my idea of fun

Chris was the toughest guy in our gang, but he was also the guy who made the best peace. I've seen him sit down on the pavement next to a small boy he didn't even know, who had hurt his knee, and get him talking about something until the boy forgot his pain. He was good at it. He was tough enough to be good at it.

There is no order in the world around us, we must adapt ourselves to the requirements of chaos instead. It is hard to adapt to chaos, but it can be done.

I am living proof of that: It can be done.
